A Victorian Circa 1905 Caduceus natural pearl, diamond, and enamel pendant, suspended from skin-tone translucent silk. Two entwined snakes & wings adorned with peacock blue/green enamel, with an old-cut diamond at the centre, with a creamy white natural pearl suspended from the staff, and another from the top of the pendant.
The caduceus is the staff carried by Greek god Hermes, the two serpents represent the fighting serpents which the god separated bringing peace between them. It has for centuries symbolized Pharmacy and Medicine. This Caduceus frame was designed and made around 1905 by the famous Child & Child, probably by a doctor for his wife, or as a symbol of services to the medical profession.
